Commercial Refrigeration Applications

Commercial Refrigeration

Supermarkets:

Since 1987, SenTech's first beta testing of prototype refrigerant loss monitors were in supermarkets.  With the large amount of refrigerant used for cooling cases, coolers and freezers, a refrigerant monitor is a natural investiment to protect inventory, machinery and costly refrigerant.  Though a monitor might not be required by ASHRAE-15, a refrigerant monitor can be a valuable loss prevention tool.

The typical supermarket application will consist of strategically placed sample points in three areas:  Inside the compressor room, inside the cooled spaces and outside the spaces where fittings or valves might be prone to leak.

A typical system will consist of an IR-SNIF-MCD8 with sample points in the compressor room, at least one in each walk in cooler or freezer, possibly sample points above the walk-in near defrost valves and sample points near refrigerated cases.  The separate locations can be notified separately by adding Individual Zone Alarm Output option.  This consists of up to eight additional DPDT relays that can be mapped to each sample area and mapped to different alarm levels.  Audible and visual alarms would be required in the compressor room and inside any occupied cooled space (walk-in coolers or freezers).  Audible and visual alarms are not usually placed in the retail area as monitoring that space is for maintenance purposes.

Refrigerated Warehouses:

With the large amount of refrigerant used for large coolers and freezers, a refrigerant monitor is a natural investiment to protect inventory, machinery and costly refrigerant.  Many large refrigerated coolers and freezers require a refrigerant monitor when classified as an Industrial Occupancy by ASHRAE-15, and refrigerant monitor can be a valuable loss prevention tool.

Industrial Process Cooling:

With the large amount of refrigerant used for process cooling cases, a refrigerant monitor is a natural investiment to protect product, machinery and costly referigerant.  Though a refrigerant monitor might not be required by ASHRAE-15, a refrigerant monitor can be a valuable loss prevention tool.

The typical process cooling application will consist of large compressor or chillers.  Sample points are strategically placed near each compressor or chiller, with the monitor sized for the number of machines to be monitored.

A typical system will consist of an IR-SNIF-1,2,3 single zone or IR-SNIF-MCD multiple zone refrigerant monitor with sample points near each machine.  Audible and visual alarms would be recommended in the machinery room and near any chiller if the chiller is on the production floor.

Sports Arenas:

Some sports arenas use halogen based refrigerants to chill fluid used to freeze and maintain an ice rink.  In these cases, the chiller room by definition would need a refrigerant monitor as required by ASHRAE-15.

The typical Sports Arena with an ice rink will consits of a single chiller in a small chiller room.

A typical system will consist of an IR-SNIF-1,2,3 single zone monitor with a sample point near the chiller.  Audible and visual alarms would be required inside the room and outside each entrance to the room.
